The signs of armed conflict are the backbones which cross and could also unify Europe, signs defining what is now called the “Conflict archaeological landscape”. This book presents a rich and unique iconography and a selection of essays for the first time providing a new critical approach to the Atlantikwall, proposing its interpretation as one of the major Western military archaeological landscapes.
Contributions, among others, by: Diller & Scofidio, Guido Guidi, Luca Basso Peressut.
Back from BCN, here we are working hard again, but this video by Celik will help us to remember the great days we had.
In the meantime, the MACBA gave us the material we requested: you can download from here: MACBA_Exhibited materials.

During this year, three Diploma works developed within the Reseaarch Unit of Interiors at POLIMI, have been awarded with meaningfull prizes.

This work has been developed further and arrived to win the first prize in an open competition for the reuse of Cascina Mulino San Gregorio, inside Parco Lambro in Milan, for the On-Lus association CeAS. The project will therefore, in the closest future, become a real work. We will keep our eyes on the building site! For now, we can only say: CONGRATULATIONS to the two young architects!

Erica Borsa was awarded by the Municipality of Lodi for her Diploma work dealing with the reuse of an industrial heritage, the ‘Consorzio agrario’ in Lodi, beeing transformed in a co-working complex devoted to host artisans and KM 0 products.
Today we have presented to the students the subject of our next Design Lab, which will take off in March 2012. We are going to deal with the refurbishment of a dismissed Milanese petrol station that was designed and built in the beginning of the 50’s by Mario Bacciocchi. The building represents a very precious heritage for the city and for its owner, Eni S.p.A. As we started to research about the history of the building, and the company, we realized how intriguing this project might become if all the issues around it will be taken into account…

Interior Arcadias by Mark Pimlott from ADA Rotterdam on Vimeo.
Fragments of nature captured in an interior, particularly when they are alien or exotic, provide pleasure to its occupants. When brought indoors, nature imposes its own character and order, and the interior typically concedes in a fundamental way to its contents, and loses much of its substance. The story of such an interior is bound up with Enlightenment-born ideas regarding the categorization, possession and domination of the world’s natural contents. The nineteenth century witnessed an explosion of expressions of these ideas, which yielded the various building typologies we continue to be familiar with: the crystal palace, the arcade, the department store, the mall, and the atrium.

Milano Architectural International Workshop (MIAW) is an annual initiative promoted by a multidisciplinary group of colleagues working in the Master of Science programs at the School of Architettura e Società of Politecnico di Milano that involves its students and a number of international guest tutors.
The focus of MIAW is the city of Milano and the concept is that each annual edition developes designs and/or built explorations along the definition of a keyword.
For MIAW2010 the keyword was ‘re-appropriation’ and now the 2010 WS report [download excerpt 500KB] is aviable the bookshops [retail price is 15,00 euros: the money will go to finance the 2011 report]. For MIAW2011 has been ‘forests’: soon also this report will be available.
MIAW.2 is now over: 10 teams of 20 students have been guided by 10 guest tutors through a racing working week. For a week the school looked like a working place for sharing collaboration: different nationalities, different genders, different education lines, different age & level, different projects, but all involved as a whole team. Productions out of the workshops can be seen walking in the Campus: from heavy wooden tower to delicate mint garden almost invisible in the labyrinth of POLIMI.
Thanks to students’ enthusiasm and a special thanks to the generosity of the invited guests.
